Dominika Berger

Wrocław (Poland), 1966

Dominika Berger graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Kraków (Poland) and in 2000 moved to Barcelona to pursue her doctoral studies. Her work was entitled “Face and Identity”, whose theme has been the leitmotif of much of her production since then. Dominika focuses her work on the face, often her own, which she sometimes depicts fragmented and sometimes complete, but always with a sense of serenity and closed eyes. The artist reflects through the face about the human condition and emotions, which gives her works an existentialist and introspective tone.

Many authors have highlighted the ability of her artistic proposal to fluctuate between figuration and abstraction. Although she uses her own face as a model, it is not a portrait, but a figurative face that embodies the concept of identity or essence, a concept that the artist explores with her painting and makes us explore when we contemplate it. She uses color in a symbolic way, either by its application or by its absence.

Since settling in Barcelona, Dominika Berger has participated in numerous painting contests and competitions in which her work has been recognized and awarded. She has been exhibiting at Sala Parés since 2018.
