Alberto Romero Gil
Mataró, 1978
Alberto Romero is considered one of the most solid emerging values of Catalan realism. His painting seeks the magic and mystery surrounding everyday reality, which, through his gaze, acquires a certain timeless character that transcends the pictorial.
His painting arises from the emotion and admiration he feels for fruits, flowers, landscapes or figures which, placed in certain atmospheres, reveal their values and nature to display all their beauty. Often they are objects which he arranges in still lifes establishing a specific spatial relationship which he then illuminates without any desire for theatricality. It is a slow and reflective process, which can last for days, in which the artist weaves a plastic, poetic and even philosophical relationship with his model. Romero himself considers that the truly difficult part of his pictorial process is this introspection into the inner life of the objects in order to capture all their nuances.
He has been selected and awarded prizes in numerous competitions and scholarships throughout Spain and has furthered his training at the Antonio López García Cathedra’s. He teaches painting and drawing, and is a great connoisseur of the great masters of art history. He has been exhibiting at Sala Parés since 2010, as well as frequently in cities such as Madrid, Brussels, and Maastricht, among others.
