MUTISMOS is a portrait of emotion through a poetic gaze that becomes the narrative thread of the works of Eva Miquel.

Some of her series like MULTITUD DESESPERADA (Desperate crowd), ÁVIDOS DE VENGANZA (Hungry for revenge), CATÁLOGO DE TARDES (A catalogue of evenings), TARDES PARA LA CONTEMPLACIÓN (Afternoons for contemplation) and ÉXODO (Exodus), showcase a comprehensive view of modern reality, in time, culture and space. An anthropological outlook that offers the spectator a more holistic perspective relative to our behaviour and human relations. Dramatic scenes of desperate masses on the one hand, collective moments of pursuing happiness on the other, these pieces evoke the human condition as a social being.

In contrast, series like CAMINOS PARA LA INTROSPECCIÓN (Paths for introspection) and DESDE EL AGUA (From the water) offer a more subjective and introspective outlook. Here the spectator is situated within the landscape and in their own experience, where they take an active role as the main character. The drawn landscape is a very intimate moment, filled with emotion, stemming from the artist’s personal experience.

This combination of sensations that assaults us with a mixture of aesthetic pleasure and an eerie restlessness, is nurtured through an elaborate creative process. Having photography as a starting block, Eva makes a masterful use of graphite pencil drawing, and her images end up with the sobriety of black and white, a photographic framing, and a myriad of textures. The artist also experiments with other supports and formats and plays with the light to obtain further depth, intimacy, and intensity on her pieces, turning a photograph into a tridimensional object. Through this process, she manages to turn an apparently conventional aesthetic into an absolutely contemporary gaze that probes deep into notions of what is Beauty and what is Human.
