Lluís Ventós
Barcelona, 1952
Painting and sculpture are two interconnected aspects in the work of Lluís Ventós, an artist who has been working for years, inspired by forms from art and popular culture — both his own and others—, the marine world and navigation, among others. Other of his important sources of inspiration are artists that fascinate him from the avant-garde of the first half of the 20th century, such as Juan Gris, or even from the baroque, where the tribute he dedicated to the Flemish painter Johannes van der Beeck, better known as “Torrentius”, stands out.
He is a rigorous artist and very demanding in the execution of his sculptures. He has a great passion for materials, whether wood from various sources, granite, marble or bronze, from which he knows how to extract the best qualities. His aesthetic is sober and the composition of his paintings always responds to a balance of forms where geometric shapes predominate, tending towards abstraction. However, he sometimes establishes explicit relationships with elements of the material spectrum. Clear and transparent colors contrast with dark and dense forms, creating intense but serene rhythms.
His exhibition history is extensive and includes Barcelona, Madrid, Paris, London and Geneva. He has been exhibiting at Sala Parés since 1998.
