Gonzalo Sicre

Cádiz, 1967

Gonzalo Sicre’s work attracts by his way of working suspense and mystery. Each painting formulates unanswered questions that make our imagination fly. He is a master of absences, intriguing us with scenes that become suggestive thanks to what the painter has not captured on the canvas or that is kept out of shot. He often focuses on environments that were not conceived to be protagonists but that acquire a new identity at the hands of the artist.

He makes use of light in a theatrical way, with which he manages to build a silent, solitary and reflective atmosphere. He often uses dawn or dusk to create intimate atmospheres, or focuses his attention on the halo generated by a solitary street lamp in the middle of the night. But it is always a contained and controllable light that modifies reality and emphasizes some everyday objects that become protagonists.

Gonzalo Sicre has participated in multiple exhibitions in public and private spaces throughout Spain, including several exhibitions at the Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid. His work has been recognized with numerous awards and is included in important public and private collections. He has been exhibiting at Galería Trama and Sala Parés since 2001.
