Marcos Palazzi (Barcelona, 1965) presents his fourth solo exhibition at Galeria Trama. The exhibition combines different formats, themes and supports, offering a comprehensive representation of his most recent work.
Palazzi is a restless, observant person. So his work reveals his everyday reality and in particular what catches his eye; from the magical atmosphere of a jazz concert in a bar in Gracia, to watching one of his sons shave his head while looking at the bathroom mirror out of the corner of his eye.
The artist in this exhibition invites us to look through his eyes, at the world that surrounds him and enjoy those tiny, momentous moments that configure his universe. There is room, what’s more, in this exhibition for many different references, from cartoon characters such as Popeye, who forms the protagonist of many of his works, to the North American artist Ronald Kitaj, linked to the Pop movement in the middle of the 20th century, to whom he refers in some of the works in the exhibition, such as “The kiss after Kitaj”. His travels, however, also inspire his work and consequently we find in various paintings the airport as the background, while others are set in the bars and streets of the city of Berlin.
It is an eclectic and surprising collection of works, focused on the human being conceived as an anti-hero of everyday life, where there is no room for idealization. His figures are immersed in their day-to-day life, captured as if by chance, in almost disconnected, anecdotal situations, but ones always marked with the touch of irony, that has been implicit in Palazzi’s work from the very beginning.
Since 1986 Marcos Palazzi has had a long line of successful exhibitions in Spain and other European countries, as well as in the United States, in institutions and international art fairs.
