About the artist

Grau Santos is certainly a well established representative of the Spanish Figurative painting of post 1950s. His career as an artist started at an early age under the guidance of his father Emili Grau Sala’s and his mother Angeles Santos’, both of whom were prestigious Catalan painters. Later on he studied Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona. With this firmly established background his creations were soon included in many institutional art collections as well as in art fairs, museums and art galleries displaying in Spain and further afield. In 1980 he became member of the Société des Beaux Arts de Paris.

He usually depicts interior views and fragments of his studio or greenhouse as backgrounds for his favourite themes, which are larders, still lifes, marionettes and gardens. His skills representing the human figure are also highly esteemed. This places him among the best portrait artists of his time.
